Samia Halaby’s artwork is featured at the Public Light Art Exhibition in Manar Abu Dhabi. The Kinetic paintings are recordings of live performances, presented on LED screens.
In 1986, Samia Halaby purchased an Amiga and began teaching herself computer programming. She has long felt that her intentions were to “expand the language of pictures”. The kinetic paintings allowed her to paint “the way things sound in addition to the way they move”. By 1990, she started working on a new program that allowed her kinetic paintings to become interactive.
This installation reveals an exciting dialogue between painting and music, where Samia uses "variety of sets of shapes, lines, colours as spontaneously as a brush can be dipped in a puddle of paint”.
