Sama Alshaibi’s work ‘The Cessation - Al-Takwir, The Folding Up’ (2019), is currently on view at ASU Art Museum, as part of the ‘Crafting Resistance’ exhibition.
In this work, Alshaibi brings attention to the aftermath of the United States-led invasion of Iraq, and highlights its impacts on women.
The work amplifies global issues around women’s safety, especially in colonized conflict zones and reflects what the artist refers to as “[her] concerns with vulnerable communities, the aftermath of war and rendering absence into visible form.”
