As part of Checkpoint Helsinki’s TO THE SQUARE 2 project, Palestinian artist Khaled Jarrar has begun work on a large-scale piece involving 50 volunteers engaged in ‘performative action.' The artist's work addresses themes of power and war. Jarrar took part in the first public event of the roject late last week in Helsinki where participating artists discussed their works.
TO THE SQUARE 2 takes place 22 August to 31 August, 2014. It is curated by Ivor Stodolsky and Marita Muukkone and re-invigorates the question of public space as crucial locus for the articulation of the political and the art of protest.
